Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer says Donald Trump's rhetoric is putting her and her family's "lives in danger" in the wake of a failed plot by right-wing militia groups to kidnap her.
During a rally in Michigan, President Trump did not stop his supporters from chanting "lock her up" when discussing Governor Whitmer.
"Lock them (Democrats) all up," President Trump said.
"You got to get your governor to open up your state".
The comments come after 13 men were arrested earlier this month over an alleged plot to overthrow Michigan's government and kidnap its governor.
They are accused of conspiring to abduct Governor Whitmer from her holiday home, with one of the suspects saying that he wanted to try her for "treason".
"It's incredibly disturbing that the president of the United States, 10 days after a plot to kidnap, put me on trial and execute me — 10 days after that was uncovered — the president is at it again and inspiring and incentivizing and inciting this kind of domestic terrorism," Governor Whitmer told US media outlet NBC.
